The New York Police Department has added additional police at several locations around the city out of an “abundance of caution” during the ongoing attacks in Paris, the NYPD said Friday night.
Extra NYPD officers have been dispatched to crowded areas around the city, as well as to French government locations “to provide police presence and public reassurance as we follow the developing situation overseas,” according to an NYPD statement. Officers from the Counterterrorism Response Command and the Critical Response Group will be deployed around the city, as well as officers from the Hercules Team, the elite, heavily-armed NYPD cops that resemble a Special Forces unit.
Mayor Bill de Blasio said Friday that the city was on alert and ready for any attacks. “We stand in solidarity with the residents of Paris and with Mayor Hidalgo during this tragic time,” the mayor’s office said in a statement. “NYPD is in close contact with our international liaison in Paris and the local authorities and are closely monitoring the situation.”
There have not yet been any known threats made against New York City, and the NYPD repeatedly said they were deploying extra forces only out an abundance of caution.
