If you’re in the market for a new Samsung TV, phone, or appliance, you may be able to use an easy trick to knock a few hundred dollars off the retail price.

First off, you should enable a cash back service, such as Rakuten or RebatesMe, on your web browser. Rakuten is currently offering up to 10% cash back on Samsung products, which can mean saving more than $100 on some of the pricier items.

Pro Tip

You may get an additional $30 off by using PayPal, so be sure to check your account.

Additionally, if you’re a cardholder of The Platinum Card® from American Express, check your Amex Offers. Cardholders are eligible to get $200 off a purchase of $1,000 or more at Samsung (through June 30, 2021).

American Express also recently announced that Platinum cardholders would receive a limited time benefit of up to a $30 monthly PayPal credit. If you have this card, be sure to add your card to your PayPal account and use PayPal at checkout for an extra $30 off (through June 30, 2021).

This card come with a hefty $550 annual fee, with many perks geared towards travel. Of course, a lot of those perks have been rendered somewhat moot in the wake of the pandemic. Cost-saving benefits and tricks applied to everyday purchases, not travel, can help you continue to get value out of your card.

One way to use those benefits is on a handful of Samsung products that are on sale right now. For example, the Samsung Frame TV with a 50-inch screen is currently $1,199.99, down from $1,299.99. (That’s not cheap, but the Frame TV’s claim to fame is that when it is not a TV, it displays the artwork of your choice within an actual picture frame.)

By combining the 10% cash back offer, the $200 off Amex Offer and PayPal benefit, this price would drop to about $850. That’s a savings of over $450 off the original retail price. If you don’t have the Platinum card, you can still take advantage of the cash back offer and ongoing Samsung sale for a few hundred dollars off the original price.

Bottom Line

Some credit cards built with travel rewards in mind can still save you money on products unrelated to travel that you might have already been considering buying. Not everyone will be eligible to combine all of these strategies, but if you are — and if you are able to pay off your credit card balance every month, without going into debt — you can still get plenty of value out of travel-focused cards you already have.
