Citibank is known for its low-interest and no annual fee credit cards, which include a variety of consumer and business credit cards with benefits and tools.

Citi does offer one premium travel card, and its robust rewards program helps the bank compete with other leading rewards issuers like American Express and Chase. Many Citi cards also offer introductory 0% interest and everyday rewards categories. But you won’t find a lot of added benefits: Citi eliminated valuable travel and purchase protections from many of its cards starting in 2019.

Whether you’re seeking simple cash back rewards, or looking to score a great introductory offer, here are NextAdvisor’s picks for the top Citi credit cards.

Before You Start

Before opening any new credit card, it’s important to make sure you have existing healthy credit habits like paying your full balance on time each month. Any new credit card can lead to high interest debt if you’re not careful, so make sure you pay off existing high interest debt before applying.

Rewards rate:

Earn 2% on every purchase with unlimited 1% cash back when you buy, plus an additional 1% as you pay for those purchases.

  • Intro bonus: No current offer
  • Annual fee: $0
  • Regular APR: 13.99% – 23.99% (Variable)
  • Recommended credit score: 740-850 (Excellent)

Overview

The Citi Double Cash Card* offers up to 2% cash back on every purchase. You’ll get 1% cash back when you swipe your card, then 1% when you pay off your purchase. There’s also an 18-month introductory 0% APR on balance transfers (13.99% – 23.99% variable APR thereafter) and no annual fee.

Why we chose this card

The Citi Double Cash card is a straightforward flat cash back card — perfect for those just starting out with credit card rewards or looking to maximize spending that doesn’t fall into common rewards categories. The card’s long 18-month 0% APR offer on balance transfers can also be helpful if you need to pay off a lingering balance.

Combined with the balance transfer offer, this card’s cash back structure is great for rewarding good credit habits. You’ll only get the full 2% cash back if you pay off your credit card balance in full every month. Otherwise, you’ll only earn 1% cash back on your spending. Not only can you earn more rewards dollars with timely payments, but you’ll boost your credit and avoid any penalty APR and late fees.

  • Introductory balance transfer rate: 0% for 18 months on Balance Transfers
  • Annual fee: $0
  • Regular APR: 14.74% – 24.74% (Variable)
  • Recommended credit score: 740-850 (Excellent)

Overview

The Citi Simplicity Card* has a long, 18-month 0% introductory period for purchases and balance transfers, which makes it a great option for planning larger purchases and consolidating existing debt. The card has no late payments fee, annual fee, or penalty APRs. There is a balance transfer fee of $5, or 3%, whichever is greater.

After the intro period, your ongoing variable APR will be 14.74% – 24.74%.

Why we chose this card

If you need a tool to wrangle an existing balance or pay off a large purchase over a period of time, then this card will give you some breathing room to do so over a full 18-month period. It also offers some additional flexibility with no late payment fees or penalty APR.

Just be aware that this card has no rewards other than that 0% introductory APR period. While it makes a helpful tool short-term, its long-term value is limited.

The Citi Rewards+ Card* earns 2x points at supermarkets and gas stations on the first $6,000 spent per year (then 1x points), and 1x points on all other purchases. Each purchase you make is also rounded up to the nearest 10-point value, regardless of category. In other words, you can earn 10 points on a $2 coffee and 30 points on a $25 takeout order.

You can also earn a 15,000-point welcome bonus after spending $1,000 in the first three months from account opening. The card comes with a 0% introductory APR for 15 months on purchases and balance transfers, then a variable 13.49% – 23.49% APR after that. There’s no annual fee.

Why we chose this card

The Citi Rewards+ Card is great for frequent everyday purchases, which can add up quickly with the card’s round up feature even if they fall outside of the 2x categories. You’ll earn rewards in the form of ThankYou points, Citi’s flexible rewards currency that can be redeemed for statement credit, gift cards, directly for purchases at retailers like Amazon.com or BestBuy.com, or for travel.

Plus, in addition to the points boost, you’ll get another boost on redemptions — earn 10% points back on the first 100,000 ThanYou points you redeem per year, worth up to 10,000 points annually.

Why we chose this card

The Citi Premier offers a solid rewards rate across common categories that can help you save on both everyday and future travel spending, especially compared to other similarly-priced cards. Outpacing the annual fee won’t be an issue your first year, thanks to a great 60,000-point intro bonus. And while there are only a few additional benefits, like access to Citi Entertainment and Citi Concierge for exclusive ticket presales and concierge services, the annual statement credit helps to boost this card’s ongoing value.

The Citi Premier Card earns ThankYou Points, which you can redeem for statement credits, cash, online purchases, gift cards, or travel. Your points won’t expire as long as your account is open.

Can Citi Pre-Qualify You for a Credit Card?

While you could previously submit information to see if you pre-qualify for a Citi credit card online, Citi is no longer accepting online prequalification applications.

The best way to ensure your chances of approval before applying is by determining whether your credit score aligns with your card’s recommended score range and maintaining healthy credit habits that can prove your creditworthiness, like making timely payments and keeping your utilization low.

What Credit Score Do You Need for a Citi Credit Card?

Recommended credit scores vary by card, but for many of the cards on our list, you’ll generally need excellent credit (740-850) to qualify.

If you’re looking to build your credit score with a Citi card, the Citi® Secured Mastercard®* is a more accessible option for people with bad credit or no credit history.

What Are Citi Easy Deals?

Citi Easy Deals is a program available to select Citi cardholders offering special discounts — from daily deals for certain products, to gift card discounts, or other limited time offers.

The program is divided into three tiers: Base Tier, Enhanced Tier, and Plus Tier. The Base Tier is limited to local offers in your area. Enhanced Tier requires at least $100 in purchases per year and offers additional access to magazine and gift card savings. You must spend $500 annually to reach Plus Tier, which adds access to Daily Deals and additional travel savings.

Cards that qualify include Citi Simplicity Card, Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card*, and AT&T Access Card from Citi*. Easy Deals can help you save on eligible purchases with these cards, which otherwise offer no or limited rewards.
