Additional Card Details

As a Nordstrom Visa Signature cardholder, you’ll get automatic Insider status in the Nordy Club (which otherwise requires at least $500 in annual spending), and benefits like 24/7 customer service and no foreign transaction fees.

Your eligibility for extra benefits will depend on how much you spend with Nordstrom each year, and thus, the level of Nordy Club status you achieve.

Your automatic Insider status unlocks an annual double points day, early access to sales, an alterations benefit of $100, and a free Nordstrom Trunk Club styling session. From there, you can climb to Influencer status when you spend $2,000 within a year, or Ambassador status when you spend $5,000 within a year. These higher status levels offer even more benefits, like multiple double points days, in-home stylist visits, and access to invite-only events.

When you apply for the Nordstrom Visa, you may be approved for the Visa Signature or Visa Platinum version, depending on your creditworthiness. If you’re approved for the Visa Signature card, you’ll get benefits like concierge services, roadside dispatch, auto rental collision damage waiver, lost luggage reimbursement, travel accident insurance, purchase protection against damage or theft, and extended warranties. If you don’t qualify for either Nordstrom Visa, you may be considered for the Nordstrom retail credit card, which may only be used at Nordstrom stores.

Should You Get this Card?

The Nordstrom Visa Signature is for dedicated Nordstrom shoppers. Trunk Club subscribers and Nordstrom regulars who dedicate much of their annual shopping budget to purchases with the department store will reap the most value from this card.

Because your points rewards are only redeemable with Nordstrom (in-store and online, and at Nordstrom Rack, HauteLook, and Nordstrom Trunk Club) occasional shoppers will be better off with a more flexible non-retail rewards credit card.

Even if you already frequent Nordstrom stores, be careful not to let your Nordstrom Visa Signature lead to overspending. Take time to ensure your Nordstrom purchases align with your budget and spending plan — and you’re not just spending to earn more rewards or reach a higher Nordy Club status.

Don’t charge anything to the card you cannot pay off by the time your statement is due, or you’ll be left paying both the balance and any high interest accrued.

How to Use the Nordstrom Visa Signature

The Nordstrom Visa Signature’s $40 Bonus Note welcome bonus is small, but easy to obtain. Apply for your card when you’re already planning to shop at Nordstrom so you can qualify for the bonus by making a purchase on the day you’re approved.

Since the Nordstrom Visa Signature is a regular Visa credit card, you can use it everywhere you shop. But you’ll only earn 3 points per dollar spent at Nordstrom (in store or online), Nordstrom Rack, HauteLook and Nordstrom Trunk Club. For your other everyday spending, you’ll gain much more value with a more flexible rewards option, such as a no annual fee cash back credit card

The points you earn with your card (3x at Nordstrom and 1x on everything else) are only redeemable for Nordstrom Notes, which you can put toward purchases in stores or online at Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, HauteLook, and Nordstrom Trunk Club. Points convert to Nordstrom Notes at a rate of one cent per point. You’ll automatically receive a $20 Note each time you accumulate 2,000 points, or you can download the Nordstrom app to cash in Notes at $5, $10 or $15 increments.

Your regular rewards Notes expire one year from the date they’re issued, so carefully track your Notes to ensure you use them before expiration. It may be difficult to earn meaningful rewards and also put them to use if you don’t shop at Nordstrom regularly. This is different from many non-retail credit card rewards programs, in which points don’t expire as long as your account is open in good standing.

Pro Tip

The Nordstrom Visa Signature Card can be a great tool for saving on Nordstrom purchases. But for your regular, everyday spending (such as groceries, dining, and gas) consider a no annual fee cash back card that offers more flexible rewards.

Beyond points rewards, you can maximize this card’s value by taking advantage of your elite status in Nordstrom’s Nordy Club. You’ll get automatic Insider status with the Nordy Club just for being a cardholder, but frequent Nordstrom shoppers can quickly climb to Influencer status (after spending $2,000 within a year) or Ambassador status (after spending $5,000 within a year) for even more benefits. But again, don’t fall into a habit of spending more at Nordstrom than you typically would simply to reach one of these higher status levels and risk taking on debt.

Bottom Line

EDITORIAL INDEPENDENCE

As with all of our credit card reviews, our analysis is not influenced by any partnerships or advertising relationships.

The Nordstrom Visa Signature is most valuable for frequent Nordstrom shoppers, especially those who find value in access to special sales and exclusive offers through the Nordy Club. But if Nordstrom isn’t your shopping go-to or you want more flexible redemption options, consider standard rewards cards that earn cash back or points you can redeem however you want, and may better align with your most frequent spending categories.
